Choosing well
Smart locks specify a door thickness range and a backset, and a beautiful lock that does not suit a 35mm door is scrap. Measure thickness, the existing mortise pocket and the distance from the door edge to the handle centre. Bring those three numbers and the choice takes two minutes.
Fingerprint is what you use daily. The PIN is for when your hands are wet, which in a Kerala monsoon is often. The mechanical key is for when the battery is flat. Buy a lock that has all three, and keep the key somewhere other than inside the house.
These locks run on batteries, not on mains, so a power cut does not lock you out. They warn you for weeks before they go. Nearly every lockout we hear about is someone who ignored the warning and had no mechanical key, which is a habit problem rather than a product one.
Capacitive readers struggle with wet fingers, and this is a place where hands are wet a great deal of the year. If the lock is going on an exposed front door with no porch cover, weight your choice towards a model with a good PIN pad and treat the fingerprint as the convenience layer.
Asked at the counter
Yes. Smart locks run on their own batteries rather than on mains power, so a power cut does not affect them. They also carry a mechanical key override for the day the batteries finally run out.
Usually yes, if the door thickness is within the model range and the mortise pocket can be adapted. Bring the door thickness and the existing lock dimensions and we will tell you before you buy.
No, we supply them. A carpenter fits the mortise. We will give you the exact cutting template for the model you buy.
Two counters in Trivandrum
Everything we sell is a mechanism. A runner either glides at full extension under load or it does not, and no photograph will tell you which. Both counters have the range on working display boards.
The main counter. Spencer Junction, opposite the Statue side of Palayam, on the ground floor of our own building.
The Technopark-side counter, first floor of the Thunduvilakam building opposite Kazhakuttam police station. Closer if you are building anywhere from Sreekaryam out to Kariavattom, Attingal or Technocity.
