Anchor it, or you have bought a portable box
Most domestic safes weigh little enough to be carried away by two people. Every safe worth owning has pre-drilled anchor holes in the base and the back. Bolting it into a concrete floor or a load-bearing wall is what turns it from a container into a security product.

Buy a size up from what you think you need
Safes fill. Documents, jewellery, a couple of hard drives and a spare set of keys go in, and within a year the door will not shut on the things you actually wanted to protect. The step up in size is usually a small step up in price.

Fire rating and burglary rating are different things
A fire-resistant safe protects paper from heat for a stated period. A burglary-rated safe resists attack. They are separate specifications and a safe strong on one may be modest on the other, so decide which risk you are actually buying against.

Where should a home safe be installed?
Somewhere it can be bolted into concrete and is not the first place anyone looks. Inside a wardrobe on an external structural wall is the usual answer, because it combines a solid anchor point with not being on display.

Everything we sell is a mechanism. A runner either glides at full extension under load or it does not, and no photograph will tell you which. Both counters have the range on working display boards.
