Choosing well
The usual rule is ten to twelve air changes an hour, which for a typical Trivandrum kitchen of around 1,000 cubic feet puts you near 1,000 m3/hr. Add to it if you temper mustard and curry leaves in hot oil daily, which most households here do, because that is a far heavier load than the sauteing most chimney specifications were written around. Under-specifying is the single most common mistake we see across this counter.
Every metre of duct and every bend costs you airflow. A 1,200 m3/hr chimney venting through a long run with two ninety-degree bends can end up performing like an 800. Measure the route to the outside wall before you choose the model, not after. If the run is unavoidably long, go up a step rather than upgrading the badge.
Filterless models are easier to live with because there is no mesh to soak and scrub, and they suit heavy Indian cooking well. Baffle filters cost less and are simple to replace. Auto-clean is a convenience feature, not a performance one; it heats a collection bowl to loosen oil, and it does not increase suction.
Within a few kilometres of the coast, salt in the air attacks cheap fasteners and thin steel long before the motor gives up. Check the body material and the fastener quality, not just the warranty length.
Asked at the counter
Around 1,000 to 1,200 m3/hr suits most Trivandrum kitchens, and you should lean towards the higher end if you do daily tempering in hot oil or have a long duct run to the outside wall.
No. We are a dealer and we supply the unit. Installation is done by your electrician, carpenter or interior contractor, or by the brand service network. We will tell you exactly what the duct route needs to be so whoever fits it gets it right first time.
It is better if your hob is 4 burners or wider, because the capture area should overhang the cooking surface. For a 2 or 3 burner hob in a small kitchen, 60cm is usually the right choice and a 90cm one simply costs more to run.
Two counters in Trivandrum
Everything we sell is a mechanism. A runner either glides at full extension under load or it does not, and no photograph will tell you which. Both counters have the range on working display boards.
The main counter. Spencer Junction, opposite the Statue side of Palayam, on the ground floor of our own building.
The Technopark-side counter, first floor of the Thunduvilakam building opposite Kazhakuttam police station. Closer if you are building anywhere from Sreekaryam out to Kariavattom, Attingal or Technocity.
