The three things attacking your fittings
Ambient humidity sits high for most of the year here, which keeps a thin film of moisture on metal almost permanently. Airborne salt within a few kilometres of the coast accelerates that considerably. And the monsoon puts standing water into places nobody designed for it.
Between them they account for the overwhelming majority of hardware failures we see, far ahead of mechanical wear.
Under the sink is where kitchens die
The cabinet under the sink is the wettest place in the house and the least ventilated. A trap that weeps slowly will not flood anything, so it goes unnoticed for months while the carcass base soaks and the runners corrode from underneath.
Two habits fix most of it: check under the sink properly twice a year, and do not seal that cabinet. A vented base or a gap at the back changes the microclimate more than any coating on the hardware will.

- Keep the base off the floor slab where possible
- Wipe standing water off runner bases rather than leaving it to dry

On door hardware exposed to outside air, stainless steel and solid brass handle salt and humidity well. Electroplated zinc alloy looks identical in the showroom and pits within a couple of years on a coastal front door, which is why so many handles here look tired long before the lock does.
Inside the house the pressure is lower and plated finishes are perfectly reasonable. The distinction that matters is exposure, not price.
Wardrobes, mould, and airflow
A sealed wardrobe against an external wall grows mould on clothes every monsoon, and people usually blame the wardrobe when the problem is that there is no air movement in it.
Louvred panels, a deliberate gap at the back, or a small vent do more than any anti-damp sachet. If the wardrobe is already built and sealed, leaving the doors open through the wettest weeks genuinely helps.
